Free Gun Safety Class

The Free Gun Safety Class provides members and non-members alike the opportunity to learn basic handgun safety rules and our range specific rules.

As the name implies, the class is free. Both classroom lecture and hands-on exercises are included. Topic covered include general safety rules that would apply anywhere, safety rules within our range, handgun parts and operation for both revolver and semi-automatic pistols, ammunition parts and function, handgun ownership responsibility, safely loading, unloading and passing of guns, and other general and range specific rule and policy topics.

Instruction is provided by range approved NRA Certified Instructors and Certified Range Safety Officers.

This free, fun, and informative class is now required to be taken by all new club members. Members may also be referred to the class if a safety incident occurs. New members who may already possess a Colorado Concealed Handgun Permit or are members of law enforcement or are certified instructors still must take the class. Since valuable range specific information is provided in addition to gun safety, all new members who receive a door access card must attend the class within 60 days of new membership signup or referral. Failure to attend the class may result in your door code being deactivated until you do attend. If you have taken the class prior to joining and you have the completion card the class requirement has been satisfied.

Class are typically scheduled on the 3rd Monday of the month from 6 PM to 9 PM. Please contact us if a Monday will never work for you. We may be able to have an alternate date scheduled or conduct a special session.

The Free Gun Safety Class does not qualify for the training requirement for the Colorado Concealed Handgun Permit.

Pistoleras

The Pistoleras is a “women only” shooting group located at the Pueblo Municipal Shooters Inc. range. The Pistoleras provides a social get together where women can participate, in a non-judgmental environment, to learn the many aspects of handgun ownership, improve shooting skills and basic defensive handgun skills. Women of all skill levels are welcome.

The main goals of the Pistoleras are:

1. SAFETY - Provide education, development, and reinforcement of safe gun handling practices.

2. COMPETENCE - Develop competence in the use of handguns by providing the support, information, and opportunities to develop gun-handling skills.

3. CONFIDENCE - Develop confidence through a more complete understanding of firearms and a course of instruction and practice to improve marksmanship.

Each member of the group will be asked to provide information on what their expectations are relative to what they hope to learn and achieve. Areas of interest, as identified by members, will be covered in future meetings.

Based on individual backgrounds and capabilities, two levels of instruction, starting from the very basics of handgun shooting to developing more advanced marksmanship skills will be available.

Each meeting will begin by covering the various aspects of handling handguns and safety. This will be followed by discussions on topics of interest as identified in previous meetings by members. The group will then proceed to the range area for live fire demonstrations and individual practice. Instructors will be available to assist individual shooters. Eye and hearing protection are required for all live firing exercises.

The Pistoleras meet the second Monday of each month at 5:30 PM at the PMS range and at least one other time per month depending on range availability. The cost per meeting to participate is $2.00 for PMS members and $10.00 for non-members.

For additional information please contact Rick Quinn at 671-7906.

Training Philosophy
Putting together the Attitude, Knowledge and Skills that will give you the ability to defend yourself and your family. Most people learn with a combination of lecture, audio visual, and hands on. All of these techniques are important in self protection training. Many of my students have never handled a firearm and are now faced with the real world worries of how they will defend themselves and their loved ones if the time ever presents itself.

About
Rick is a Chief Range Safety Officer and as such can certify Range Safety Officers for duty on any range anywhere in the country.

Currently Rick is training individuals, businesses and families in all aspects of safe gun handling with regard to self defense and concealed handgun. Rick has been a shooting sports enthusiast for most of his life, starting with his dad as a young child with shotguns, rifles, and reloading, then migrating to pistols and self defense. After Rick spent 4 years in the United States Air Force, he spent almost 20 years in the Insurance industry as a trainer and Certified Insurance Counselor. Rick was instrumental in implementing the Free Gun Safety Program now in use by Pueblo Municipal Shooters, and is founder of Certified Gun Handlers of Southern Colorado. Rick is a Double Distinguished Expert in semi-auto pistol and Defensive Pistol 1 with the NRA.
